1. Who Can Participate in This Wiki



Anyone can participate in the MTS Wiki. Two types of users:

  • Authors : Content providers who post and edit articles
  • Commentators: Anyone who wishes to leave a comment about an article

To avoid uncontrolled access, authors must seek approval from MTS Executive Director . Begin by creating a profile, as described in the next section.

2. How to Create a Profile



To create or edit a page, please create a profile:

  1. Click the Create Account option on the left.
  2. All the fields on the form that appears are mandatory. Note: The e-mail address will not be published, but it will be visible to the administrators.)
  3. Type the Control Text in the field.
  4. Click Create Account.
  5. If you wish to become an author, you must send an e-mail to MTS Executive Director requesting that your account be approved.

You can now use the Login/Logout option to control your access.

3. How to Author a Page



To become an author:

  1. Follow the instructions under How to Create a Profile. Once you have been approved as an author, you can:
    • Create a Page:
      • Click Create a Page on the left, enter a title, and use the form.
    • Edit a Page:
      • Click Edit this Page in the upper right-hand corner.

Note: Please do not include contents covered by copyright without the explicit permission of the author. Always preview the result before saving. If you are having trouble, please visit the Help section at ScrewTurn Software.

4. How to Leave a Comment



Anyone can leave a comment; you do not need to create a profile.

You will use three areas of the screen.

  1. The Content Area, which is the area this text is in. You will read information here.
  2. The Menu options at left allow you to:
    • Random Page: Let the system select a page for you.
    • All Pages: See a list of all pages in the wiki, including those that are not in Categories.
    • Categories: Access pages that are assigned to categories, such as “Unmanned Maritime Vehicles”
  3. The buttons in the upper right.
    • Discuss: Leave a comment on an article that is displayed in the Content Area
    • History: View all the comments about the article displayed in the Content Area

To leave a comment:

  1. Select a page from the Menu at left by selecting Random Page, All Pages or Categories, then clicking in the list of pages.
  2. Click the Discuss button in the upper right. A Discussion page will appear.
  3. Click the Post a Message button in the upper right.
  4. The Post a Message window will appear. Enter a subject and text, then press either Preview (the text is displayed below the message area) or Send.

5. How to Reply to a Comment



  1. Select a page from the Menu at left by selecting Random Page, All Pages or Categories, then clicking in the list of pages.
  2. Click the Discuss button in the upper right. All the discussions about that page will appear.
  3. Click the Reply icon to the right of the discussion you want to participate in. (You may also add a new comment by clicking the Post a Message button.)

6. How to View All Comments



You can see the entire history of an article by doing the following:


  1. Select a page from the Menu at left by selecting Random Page, All Pages or Categories, then clicking in the list of pages.
  2. Click the History button in the upper right.
  3. If you wish, click a page name to see that page.

7. Subscribe by RSS



One added MTS Wiki benefit is the ability to subscribe to many areas of the site by RSS. This allows you to stay on top of comments and updates using any RSS 2.0 compatible reader, including most web browsers. For example in IE7, just click on the orange RSS link on any of the pages and you'll view the feed and be given the opportunity to suscribe.
